Following the Prison Strategy White Paper, which set out the 10 year strategy to reduce reoffending and keep the streets safe, we were delighted to welcome Antonia Romeo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Antonia joined WIG for this Breakfast Briefing to share insights into her role and the work of MoJ.

Antonia Romeo is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, having previously been the Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Trade (DIT) since March 2017. Antonia joined the Civil Service in 2000 as a professional economist, following an early career in the private sector at strategic consultancy firm Oliver Wyman.
Prior to her appointment as Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Trade, Antonia held a number of senior roles in Her Majesty’s Government including within the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Justice, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Most recently, Antonia was Her Majesty’s Consul General in New York and Director General Economic and Commercial Affairs USA, and Special Envoy to the US technology companies. Antonia sits on the Civil Service Board and Senior Leadership Committee, and is the Civil Service Gender Champion. Antonia holds an MA (PPE) from Oxford University, an MSc (Economics) from the London School of Economics, and an Advanced Management Programme diploma from Columbia Business School.
