Author WIG Date 3 Jul 2024

A Recording of the Perspectives on Futureproofing the Grid for a Decarbonised Energy Sector with Rebecca Beresford, Director of Net Zero Strategy & Policy, EDF UK, and Jon Davies, Director of Network Operations & Intelligence, Electricity Transmission, National Grid

Theme(s)

Net zero and sustainability

In 2021, the Government set out its ambition that all electricity produced in the UK should be 100% clean by 2035. In this panel discussion, we will explore how organisations from across the sectors are working to meet this target and deliver a secure, affordable and decarbonised power sector.

Watch now to:

• Understand how the government is working with industry to ensure the grid is fit for purpose to support a decarbonised power sector

• Discuss the progress made by energy companies in the use of clean energy sources such as solar and wind

• Debate the role of cross-sector collaboration in meeting targets on the road to net zero in the UK

Rebecca is Director of Net Zero Strategy and Policy at EDF (UK), and leads a team of energy policy, strategy and sustainability experts who work across EDF’s UK operations.

As the largest producer of zero carbon electricity in Britain, EDF operates a fleet of nuclear, wind, solar and battery storage assets, with a large pipeline of new projects under development, including the UK’s first new nuclear station in a generation at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. EDF is also helping customers to decarbonise, developing solutions to help households, businesses and the private sector to achieve net zero, through on site solar generation, electric mobility, low carbon heating and flexibility services.

Rebecca has worked for EDF in a number of roles across strategy, energy policy and regulation, including on Electricity Market Reform, Smart Metering, and more recently on the current Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA).
