Accelerating Maritime & Aviation Decarbonisation: a Cross-sector perspective
Author WIG Date 16 Nov 2021
A recording of the WIG Webinar: Accelerating Maritime & Aviation Decarbonisation a Cross sector perspective with Holly Greig, Deputy Director Aviation Decarbonisation, Department for Transport; Dr Cristina Garcia-Duffy, Head of Technology, Aerospace Technology Institute; and Alan Tinline, Head of Environment, Associated British Ports
The importance of decarbonisation in the aviation and maritime sectors has been front and centre this year. The UK's sixth Carbon Budget not only enshrined a new target of 78% carbon emissions reduction by 2035, but also incorporated the UK's share of international aviation and shipping emissions for the first time.
The government's transport decarbonisation plan, published July 2021, sets out the commitments, actions and timings needed to build a UK wide transport system that contributes to a "better, greener Britain". Accelerating decarbonisation across aviation and maritime forms a central focus of this strategy, as well as being crucial for 'green' international trade.
Following the COP26 summit in November, this session will offer you the opportunity to:
- Build your understanding of the low carbon fuels and zero emissions solutions, such as hydrogen, ammonia and electrification, which will make ‘jet zero’ and 'green ships' a reality.
- Explore some of the challenges and opportunities that aviation and shipping decarbonisation might present for your organisation
- Discuss how we can harness cross-sector collaboration to drive research and innovation in this space
